Kitchen Garden Program
Students in Grades 5 & 6 take part in fortnightly cooking & gardening sessions as part of out Kitchen Garden Program run by our specialist - Carol Tillyer. The program teaches children to grow, harvest, prepare and share fresh, seasonal, delicious food in order to form positive food habits for life.
To support our program, we have a vegetable garden, wicking beds and an orchard to improve the productivity of our fruit and vegetables. We are also fortunate to have other specialists come in for our garden sessions each term to teach us about worms, compost and other natural and environmental factors.
The Grade 6 students also make an annual morning tea for all students at the school. A cookbook is also created and available for sale at the end of the year to showcase the recipes and new skills the students have learnt.
The Kitchen Garden program is wonderfully supported by our local Coles, Woolworths, Landcare, Bunnings, Woodend Nursery and The Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation, as well as our parent volunteers.
