Wellbeing Overview

Supporting children’s wellbeing, alongside their learning, sits at the heart of our school’s work. We know that children can only learn when they feel safe and capable of meeting the challenges and opportunities of life. Helping children develop a growth mindset and a strong sense of belonging at school are at the core of what we do.

We encourage our students to be who they are, and to seek to understand others. We want our students to be able to ride out the highs and lows of life with a growth mindset, a kind attitude and positive manners.

Our instruction to students is simple - all feelings are okay, all behaviours are not.

Students are explicitly taught routines, procedures and expected behaviours.

We work hard to ensure our students are ‘ready to learn’ in the classroom and they are supported to regulate their emotions.

We celebrate the success of our students and highlight these to their peers and community.

We believe in all our students because we care.

Our whole school approach includes…

  • SWPBS (School Wide Positive Behaviour Support): We explicitly and consistently teach children expected behaviours according to our values, reinforce positive behaviours and respond to inappropriate behaviours with reteaching and logical consequences.
  • Kimochis: This social emotional learning program helps children develop a broad emotional vocabulary and tools for coping and thriving with their feelings. It also presents the keys to communication – the foundations of strong social interactions.
  • Inclusive Classrooms & Berry Street Education Model: Drawing on understandings about what best enables vulnerable students to learn, we embed practices and strategies that create calm, consistent, predictable and inclusive classroom climates for all students.
  • Buddies: The junior and senior classes spend special time working together each week, developing strong and supportive connections across the year levels.
